At Thrive Research, so are we.
So curious, in fact, that our founder built Thrive to bring research to life. Research that would otherwise “live” only in academia and not in the hands of parents, academic coaches, and other professionals who can best use it to help teens and young adults. Not years into the future, but now.
Thrive’s mission supports a growing trend in healthcare--power to the people. Power to prevent disease and power to make decisions for managing all aspects of health and wellness.
A new book by Wired editor (and recently minted UC Berkeley MPH) Thomas Goetz shows that when individuals engage in their healthcare decision-making and management, they have significantly better outcomes.
The Decision Tree:Taking Control Of Your Health In The New Era Of Personalized Medicine explores at length the series of decisions, whether conscious or unconscious, all of us make in creating our experience of health.
Goetz details how Internet tools can be adapted to break down the complex findings of researchers and make them relevant to individuals.
His concept of personalized medicine isn’t just finding the right pill for the right person, though. Much like the evolution of the Internet itself, it’s a richer, more interactive one that as he says, "...wouldn’t just be a healthier person here or there; the potential is to help lots of people.”
The book covers concepts reinforcing the solutions we’ve created at Thrive Research, namely that behavior changes are the best health decisions anyone can make.
Goetz explores at length how difficult behavior changes can be and offers insights into how Internet support and tracking tools as well as social networking and collaboration are being used to make changes that “stick”.
We agree and are proud leaders on this new frontier. Join us today!
